The path to a just Green Deal starts in Seville | Your PES Group newsletter

The COP26 in Glasgow made important steps forward on scaling down coal, phasing out fossil fuel subsidies, and protecting forests, to name a few. Many felt that the agreement didn’t go far enough, but, whatever the outcome, cities and regions have a major role to play to make the Paris agreement a reality on the ground. So, where do we go from here?

Progressive regions and cities are not waiting around for national governments to act. From mobility to jobs, from cohesion to sustainability, we are committed to making sure that climate action and social justice go hand in hand.

Tomorrow, we will gather in Seville, a role model city for sustainability led by our member and Mayor Juan Espadas. Together with him, Teresa Ribera Rodríguez, Vice-President of the Spanish Government, European Commissioner Nicolas Schmit, our President Christophe Rouillon, and many others, we will discuss how to implement a just Green Deal which starts locally! Register and follow live here ➡️

We look forward to having many of you in person and online joining this important debate. For more news, take a few minutes scroll down the thread of this month’s PES Group newsletter 👇👇👇

🌍 Progressives fighting for a sustainable planet at #COP26

When we talk about mitigation, adaptation to climate change, less CO2 emissions, it's the role of cities and regions to bring citizens on board. They can show the path to how ambitious climate targets become reality. Listen to our Vice-President and Deputy-mayor of Budapest, Kata Tüttő, who was part of the Committee of the Regions’ delegation to COP26 ⬇️

👦 A better future #ForEveryChild
