Kickstart Your Summer with Progressive Insights! | Your PES Group newsletter
The past few months have been a whirlwind of political campaigns and a surprising turn of events.
The result of the European elections have reinforced our commitment to champion social justice, environmental sustainability, and inclusive growth. The rise of the far-right, which threatens the core values of solidarity, democracy, and inclusivity that we hold dear, underscores even more the urgency of our mission to promote a fairer and more equitable Europe in every place.
Before we raise the EU flag at the beach, let us look at some of the progressive highlights of the last few weeks. Scroll down for some good reads and podcasts 👇👇👇
🙌 Bringing local and regional insights to the EU Parliament
Congrats! We are proud that several of our members have been elected to the European Parliament, including Isilda Gomes from Portugal, Dario Nardella, Antonio Decaro and Nicola Zingaretti from Italy, and Elio Di Rupo from Belgium. These committed leaders will bring their experience at the local and regional level for a more progressive Europe!
🌞 Join Us at the YES Summer Camp in Santa Cruz!
We are excited to announce our participation in the Summer Camp of the Young European Socialists in Santa Cruz, Portugal, from 24 to 28 July! Our workshops on gender equality, LGBTIQ rights, and housing policies will be a fantastic opportunity to engage with young progressives and discuss key issues that shape our societies.
🏠 Let’s make #HousingForAll a reality
895 000. This is the estimated number of homeless people living on the streets in Europe. And numbers are on the rise. We believe that everyone deserves a roof over their heads! Read more about the Finnish "Housing First" model and the role of cities and regions to end homelessness from our rapporteur Mikko Aaltonen.
👦 #SocialEurope starts with children
Evidence shows that life chances and inequalities are largely determined in early childhood, heavily influenced by the socio-economic status of parents, and often passed down through generations. We advocate for quality early childhood care and universally free education for all children to break this cycle and create a fairer society for future generations!
👩🌾 A #FairGreenDeal for female farmers
Women are often the drivers of sustainability in farming. Our rapporteur on the future Common Agricultural policy and now Member of the European Parliament, Isilda Gomes, explains why we need fight gender inequalities in the agricultural sector ⤵️
📅 What’s coming up?
Join us on Tuesday, 8 October, during the 2024 European Week of Regions and Cities for our workshop, "Mapping Solidarity: Progressive Visions for CAP and Cohesion." We will explore reform proposals advocating for solidarity in the European internal market, focusing on the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) and Cohesion policies. Participate in a lively debate with inspiring speakers and vote on the best proposals! Don't miss this chance to help shape a more united and equitable Europe.
