Briefing | Extraordinary PES Group meeting in Florence, 3-4 November 2022

Dear speaker,
The PES Group in the European Committee of the Regions (PES Group), our hosts and Group members Eugenio Giani, President of the Region Tuscany, and Dario Nardella, Mayor of Florence are looking forward to welcome you at our external PES Group meeting on 4 November in Florence (from 9.00 to 13.00 CET) to discuss key issues facing young people today and jointly come up with a progressive vision for the future of young people in Europe.

The interpretation regime of the Group meeting on Friday morning will be guaranteed in English, French, German, and Italian. Additional languages might be added in relation to the level of attendance.
Study visit
On Thursday afternoon, 3 November 2022, we are organising a study visit scheduled from 14.30 to 18.00 CET. You are invited to join us. It will be the occasion to explore Florence from a different perspective. You will see how innovative policies are giving shape to contemporary and sustainable living spaces, complementing the historical and artistic heritage of the City of Renaissance. This is providing a dynamic and attractive environment for younger generations to studying, working, and living in Florence.

Hotel and logistics
The Group meeting will take place on Friday morning in the Sala Verde of the Firenze Fiera Congress & Exhibition Center - Piazza Adua, 1. It is located near the Florence Santa Maria Novella railway station, at the entrance of the city center. If you plan to come by car, please inform us in advance in order to grant you the access to the parking place.
The closest airport is the Florence Peretola Airport ("FLR") which is the major airport of the region Tuscany. It is located 8 km from the city center in the Florence suburb called "Peretola" which is claimed as the birthplace of Amerigo Vespucci.
Please note that NO private shuttle service will be organised by the PES Group or by the hosts for the transfers from and to the airport.
The airport is easily connected to the city center with the new tramway service which is connecting the airport in an ecological way to the city center in 20 minutes. Tickets cost € 1.50 for a single journey (Biglietto singolo).
If you consider to take a taxi, it takes around 15 minutes to get to and from the Florence city center and it costs around €25.
The Pisa Airport ("PSA") is mainly used by low-cost companies as Ryanair. It is about 75 minutes from Florence by train or bus - both of which arrive to and depart from the airport terminal. Please consult the website of the Pisa Airport for more details.
For the hotels, please note that the city of Florence is offering a very large of offer of hotels and B&Bs whose fares are subject to fluctuation according to the seasonal demand. We have received a list of possible hotels which we put at your disposal, with the specific conditions. Please note that the PES Group secretariat takes no responsibility in relation to hotel bookings.
