6 political priorities to kick-off the year | Your PES Group newsletter

“A fresh start is not a new place, it’s a new mindset.” For us, having the right mindset is a big part of the process. As we just kicked off the new year, we’re eager to boost our chances of sticking to our #Progressive2022 New Year's resolutions!

The clock is ticking and things are moving fast. Although January is a time for reflections, we want to make it the starting point for concrete political actions. In this month’s newsletter, we share with you a wrap-up of 6 of our political priorities we are strongly committed to working on in 2022. You will get inspired by what progressive cities and regions do on the ground to promote innovative actions and stand up for progressive values, such as inclusion, sustainability, equality and solidarity.

🧒 #ChildUnion: High quality education and equal access to childcare for all

Every child deserves the best start to their lives. Our President Christophe Rouillon shares his #ProgressiveLocalStories on how the fight against inequalities starts with an equal access to childcare and high-quality education.

Haven’t yet signed our Call for a #ChildUnion or want to share your best practices on childhood policies? Check out our campaign website ➡️

🌈 #LGBTIQFreedomZone: Enhancing public policies that protect LGBTIQ rights

Over the last year, we have witnessed an alarming backlash against LGBTIQ rights. In this video, Yoomi Renström, Mayor of Ovanåker, reaffirms that progressive local and regional cities are strongly committed to fighting policies that discriminateLGBTIQ people while making sure the LGBTIQ community has the same rights as any other citizen.

Find out how your city or region can become a LGBTIQ Freedom Zone! Check out our #LoveWhereILive campaign ➡️

🌿 #EUGreenDeal: Delivering Green Deal projects locally

Every step counts: local and regional politicians are key actors to deliver Green Deal projects locally. The climate crisis is a global problem that needs local solutions. We, progressive cities and regions, are committed to driving the #EUGreenDeal with a social dimension, as says our former member and Mayor of Seville, Juan Espadas.

🌍 #GenderEquality: Solving the climate crisis by investing in women

The stakes are high to ensure that the solutions to address the climate emergency are not gender-blind. We’re proud of having put forward the gender dimension under the climate crisis spotlight. 📺 Watch Kata Tüttő, Deputy Mayor of Budapest, calling for the EU to bring #GenderEquality at the heart of the Green Deal.

We’ll continue fighting to make sure that climate-related policies are designed and implemented with a clear gender and social dimension. ➡️ Read our article on this topic

🚵 #GreenMobility: Redesigning public spaces in our cities

Urban mobility is a matter of vital importance for cities and regions across the EU. European cities increasingly face problems caused by transport and traffic, such as congestion, road traffic accidents and pollution. Listen to Pascal Smet, Secretary of State of the Brussels-Capital Region, to learn more about how Brussels is redesigning mobility to tackle these problems.

🌾 #RuralAreas: A vibrant future for EU’s rural territories

We defend the development of a comprehensive EU Rural Agenda. Rural areas need legislative and financial tools that enable them to maximise their potential and thus face challenges such as demographic change, connectivity, the risk of poverty or limited access to services. ➡️ Watch Concha Andreu, President of La Rioja in Spain, on this crucial issue for Europe’s future.
